Our Story
Our History
Think Together Sheffield was formed in 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic, when the huge rupture in education and society highlighted the need for people from all communities to imagine a better future and think, talk, listen and work together.
Philosophical enquiry has deep roots in Sheffield, stretching back to 2005, and our members have been at the heart of this movement throughout.
P4C begins growing in Sheffield schools, led by Development Education South Yorkshire (DECSY) and the Sheffield Local Education Authority, supported by Creative Partnerships.
P4C expands rapidly with DECSY conferences at Sheffield Hallam University and courses accredited by SAPERE. ESCAL's annual 'Let's Talk' pupil conferences at the Town Hall bring debate and enquiry to children of all ages.
Philosophy in the City, a student-led outreach programme at the University of Sheffield, is founded.
Thinking Space begins working with local schools and cultural organisations on creative forms of philosophical education.
Many Sheffield schools develop whole-school philosophy initiatives through SAPERE's Going for Gold Programme. P4C extends into the community with Philosophy in Pubs and philosophy workshops on issues including climate change.
Think Together Sheffield is formally established as a coalition committed to putting philosophical enquiry at the heart of Sheffield life.
Sheffield's first ever Philosophy Late event takes place at Millennium Gallery, celebrating philosophical conversation and community thinking.
